"Security I understand is for our benefit, but classrooms main bhi patrolling hone lagi hai which is making the students scared. However, with so many police walahs continuously taking rounds of LU , the move has got a mixed reaction from the students. Take for example, Dolly Agarwal, a BA first year student, who isn't quite okay with the policemen hovering around the students always. "Usha Singh, a BA Hons first year student agrees with Asha as she says, "These cops are for our safety. "I am all for the security on campus, but when I see so many policemen around, I get a bit scared too.

Ever since protest and violence broke out at the Lucknow University campus a few days ago, several cops have been stationed at every nook and corner there to ensure smooth functioning of the educational institute. However, with so many police walahs continuously taking rounds of LU , the move has got a mixed reaction from the students. While some are happy with the policemen on campus, as they feel more secure, others are not-so-happy as it gives them a 'jail-waali' feeling. Take for example, Dolly Agarwal, a BA first year student, who isn't quite okay with the policemen hovering around the students always. "I am all for the security on campus, but when I see so many policemen around, I get a bit scared too. Every day I see the police force standing at the gate which somehow gives me a feeling as if I am a prisoner who is ready to be taken to jail. I just hope this thing ends soon and we are back to normal,” says Dolly.Even though Sarita Yadav, BA first-year student doesn't mind police stationed at the University, she has a problem with the sudden patrolling in the classes. "Security I understand is for our benefit, but classrooms main bhi patrolling hone lagi hai which is making the students scared. Now imagine hum log classes mein padh rahe hain and suddenly the police wallahs come marching in the classes!" she rues.Cops at the LU campus (BCCL/ Aditya Yadav)Another collegian Muskan Gupta , says her mother too got scared seeing so many police officials stationed at the entrance gate. "My mother who came to drop me on the first day was shocked to see the cops everywhere on the campus. As a mother, she expected the atmosphere to be peaceful at Lucknow University now." she says.Concentrating in studies in the presence of police officials is something that Upasana Singh , an MBA first year student is finding a bit difficult. "You need a peaceful environment to study but with so many armed policemen around, one cannot concentrate on studies. I even saw some policemen sitting inside the campus, outside departments, catching hold of students whom they find or suspect of indulging in mischief. This is so weird!" she avers. However, there are a few who are finding the presence of policemen absolutely fine. Asha Bhatnagar, a BA first year student, says, "Yes there are students who feel uncomfortable with the presence of police force on campus, but I am not among them. To prevent whatever happened last week on campus, such kind of steps are required. Also, the police officials are not bothering any of the students, they are just there for our security. So what’s the harm?"Usha Singh, a BA Hons first year student agrees with Asha as she says, "These cops are for our safety. They have never caused any unnecessary harm to anyone on the campus. I always found them sitting in a corner, keeping a close eye on everyone who enters the campus which is for our safety only. They are patrolling so that we feel safe and are able to study in a peaceful environment. Also, I am sure they will not be here forever!"-Prachi Arya
