LUCKNOW: The congress has accused that Modi government was spending a meagre 5 paise per child in its much touted Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme."The Modi government has made a mockery of a scheme like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao... It spends a pittance of just 5 paise per girl child under their flagship scheme," Congress MP and president of the All India Mahila Congress Sushmita Dev said here on Saturday.Dev was in the city to address members on the foundation day of AIMC. When asked to comment on the calculation behind the observation, she said: "We derived the figure on the basis of fund allocated under the scheme vis-a-vis India's girl child population in the 0-15 years agegroup."A document from the party stated: "Modi government's outlay for Betio Bachao Beti Padhao scheme for all districts is just Rs 230 crore for the current financial year. It means that each district under the scheme will get a meagre amount of Rs 43.75 lakhs. As per 2011 census, there are 632 lakh girls below 15 years of age. Hence the annual allocation comes to a pittance of 5 paise to each girl."Asserting that the Modi government had worked only to disempower the girl child, Dev shared that out of the Rs 3600 crore Nirbhaya fund only Rs 825 crore has been utilised in the past four years. "Even as incidents of violent crimes continue to increase in the country, not a single one-stop center which was to come up under the Nirbhaya scheme has been built," she informed.Addressing the cadres, Sushmita said, "Women safety and security has touched an all time low under the BJP led government. But I must say that Modi alone is not responsible for this. The chief ministers of his party heading different states have contributed equally if not more for this. In fact, sometimes I wonder if there is a competition on 'whose state is most unsafe' going on among BJP CMs. It is also beyond anyone's doubt that UP's CM Aditya Nath tops the list."Sushmita also raised the issue of women's reservation. "It was Rajiv Gandhi who launched women into public representation by reserving 33% seats for women in panchyati raj and municipal systems. His son Rahul Gandhi has pledge to take this dream forward by providing reservation to women elsewhere," she said.Stating that ruling BJP government was against empowerment of women she added, "The way Modi government has ignored the women reservation bill over the past four years speaks for their intention. And when Congress will form the government in 2019, we will clear this bill which will bring out more women leaders in India's democratic process."Newly appointed state team of the All India Mahila Congress was also formally delegated their responsibility. Congress MLA from Rae Bareli Sadar Aditi Singh, who has been made the national general secretary of All India Mahila Congress was also handed over the task to launch the Priyadarshini Project under which Congress aims to reach out to first time women voters across India. "The project, that will have both field and digital interface, would be launched soon," Aditi said.
