UP Congress aims to add 5 lakh workers by December

Sources in the party said the Congress aims to achieve several goals with Project Shakti. It has been successful in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana where the party added 11 lakh workers to its fold.Political experts point out that Congress has the weakest management of booth workers when compared to SP, BSP, and BJP. In fact, an internal assessment by the Congress revealed that around 20-25% of booths in the past three elections saw no representation from the party workers which adversely affected its prospects. Congress cadres have been asked to give feedback to Rahul Gandhi and AICC, and campaign for the party and its candidates," said a party insider. "The target is to scale up the base to 5 lakh by December 2018," said a party functionary.

LUCKNOW: To counter BJP 's narrative of a Congress-free booth, the grand old party will launch Project Shakti - a massive party workers outreach programme in UP soon.A web and mobile interface based digital tool, Project Shakti will work as a direct bridge between party workers on one side and party chief Rahul Gandhi and AICC members on the other. "By way of this project, the party has shunned its 'mass based past' (public perception based survival) to adorn a 'cadre based present' (systematic approach to voter by building a cadre) for a better future," said a senior leader.Congress office bearers associated with implementing Project Shakti in UP said the aim is to reach out to over 50,000 booth level workers in the state in the first month. "The target is to scale up the base to 5 lakh by December 2018," said a party functionary."In UP, more cadres are desperately needed to counter the RSS which claims to have a presence of one worker for every three voters. Congress cadres have been asked to give feedback to Rahul Gandhi and AICC, and campaign for the party and its candidates," said a party insider.
