Vajpayeersquos DoB printed wrong in UP school books

Agra: Nearly 50,000 students of Class VI in upper primary schools have been learning the wrong date of birth of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as it has been printed incorrectly in the textbook “Manjari”, published by the Basic Education Department.Instead of December 25, the book states that Vajpayee was born on December 2. It also has a brief details on the life of the former prime minister.Geeta, a teacher of Class 6 in a school in Agra, said that textbook is a source from where children gain knowledge, but what would they learn from information that is factually incorrect. He further said that the authorities should make all efforts to make textbooks error free.Giving a political twist to this error, Vivek Bansal, the secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC), said, “the BJP is in the habit of distorting history, whether its about the country or its own leader.”BJP state spokesperson Chandramohan said that it must be printing error and will surely be rectified after inquiring the matter. When contacted, principal secretary (Basic Education) Prabhat Kumar said that he has instructed the department to scrutinise all books for factual errors and rectify the same, if any.The chapter mentions Vajpayee's date of birth as December 2 instead of December 25.He said, “Action will be taken against whosoever is responsible for the error in Atal Ji’s date of birth.”The book contains Vajpayee’s motivational poem “Aao Phir Se Diya Jalaye” in the last chapter - 21, which has been introduced in schools for the first time.
