LUCKNOW: In an attempt to counter BJP’s Hindutva plank ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has decided to play another soft Hindutva card by asking its workers to take out ‘Ram Dhun’ prabhat pheris in all district headquarters from September 25 till October 1, the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.In a letter to district and city party unit chiefs, UP Congress president Raj Babbar said that since 2018 marks the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a number of activities have been planned across the state to mark the occasion.Adding that Congress party would observe October 2 as Non-Violence Day, Babbar stated in the letter, “As part of the events, you are requested to take out processions every morning, chanting ‘Ram Dhun’ and holding placards stating the pledge that we will not let anyone kill Gandhi’s principles of truth and non-violence.”Ram Dhun prabhat pheris would culminate with a pledge ceremony at Gandhi statue in the districts.
