BBAU students lock mess protest against food quality

University officials were also directed to take acti on against mess in charges if food quality doesn’t improve.“When insects were found again in the dinner served on Tuesday, the residents held a meeting and decided not to avail of mess services.

LUCKNOW: The inmates of Sangmitra girls’ hostel of Dr Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) wore black clothes and locked the hostel mess in protest after insects were found in the dinner served to them on Wednesday.It was for the second time that insects were found in the dal and vegetables served in the mess. The girl students decided not to avail the mess services till the university administration improves food quality. Around 100 girls gathered early morning in front of the library and staged protest against the poor quality of food, lack of hygiene and insects in meals.The students sat on a dharna for more than an hour before the university’s vice-chancellor NMP Verma called them with the mess in charges and university officials for a meeting to resolve the problem. Boys also joined the protest against the poor mess services.In the meeting, two students from two hostels were given the responsibility to report on the food quality on a daily basis.
