LUCKNOW: A Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on Monday asked the state and Central governments to file their counter affidavits within a week on a petition challenging the decision of the BJP government to the name of Allahabad by renaming it as Prayagraj. It fixed November 19 for next hearing of the matter.A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan passed the above order on a PIL moved HS Pandey. The petitioner has pleaded that before changing name of a district , it is necessary to invite objections from public under section 6 (2) of revenue manual but the said provision was not followed in the present case.The state counsel opposed the plea by submitting that the provision was applicable in case revenue area had to be changed but in the present case, the revenue area was not changed and instead only name was changed and as such the petition was not maintainable.
