LUCKNOW: Air quality in the city continued to remain ‘very poor’ with slight increase in air quality index (AQI) level on Tuesday in comparison to Monday. In comparison, AQI of Delhi was 409.Ghaziabad in UP and Faridabad in Haryana, each with AQI of 438, were the most polluted in India.In Lucknow, PM2.5 concentration touched the mark of 407 micrograms per cubic metre of air in Aliganj, making air quality severe in the evening. PM2.5 concentration in the area between 5am and 8am was 350 micrograms per cubic metre of air.Peak value of PM2.5 concentration in Talkatora was 393, Lalbagh 323 and Nishatganj 286 micrograms per cubic metre of air.These values were foureight times higher than the permissible PM2.5 limit of 60 micrograms per cubic metre set by National Ambient Air Quality Standards “Pollution level in all localities is high, traffic congestion and vehicular load further trigger toxicity,” said Lucknow University air quality monitoring director Prof Dhruv Sen Singh. Aliganj was the most polluted area in the city followed closely by Talkatora, Lalbagh and Nishatganj.AQI level of the city was 388, which comes under ‘very poor’ category, just 12 ranks short of ‘severe’ category, as data released by Central Pollution Control Board showed.
