Won’t support Congress if verdict is split: Maya

  • | Friday | 16th November, 2018

LUCKNOW: After rejecting an alliance with Congress for the ongoing assembly polls in five states, BSP supremo Mayawati on Friday also refused to support the party in case of a hung assembly. “Congress and BJP are saanpnath and naagnath, and there is no question of going with them. There is no question of thinking about taking or giving support when we are confident of getting absolute majority. Sources in BSP even suggested that the alliance would not extend support to anyone in case of a hung assembly, and the only probability can be the new CM being an alliance member. However, suppose there is such a situation where we don’t get majority, we will prefer sitting in opposition but will not support BJP or Congress,” Mayawati said.Saying that both parties were against Dalits, tribals, farmers and unemployed for whose welfare BSP and Janta Congress were fighting, Mayawati said BJP and Congress were two sides of same coin.

LUCKNOW: After rejecting an alliance with Congress for the ongoing assembly polls in five states, BSP supremo Mayawati on Friday also refused to support the party in case of a hung assembly. Calling Congress and BJP saanpnath and naagnath, the former UP chief minister said that the two party’s were two faces of the same coin and that she would prefer sitting in opposition rather than extending support to either for forming government.Speaking to a news channel during campaigning in Chhattisgarh, Mayawati said that she was confident of BSP and its alliance partner Ajit Jogi’s Janta Congress Chhattisgarh winning an absolute majority.BSP, which won a single seat in the 2013 assembly elections, is contesting on 35 seats while Jogi’s party is contesting 55 seats.“I am confident that our alliance will get absolute majority. There is no question of thinking about taking or giving support when we are confident of getting absolute majority. “Congress and BJP are saanpnath and naagnath, and there is no question of going with them. Even voting for second round has not taken place. We cannot conjecture but in case something like this happens (where the alliance does not get majority), we prefer sitting in the opposition,” she said. The alliance will, however, have a crucial role to play in case of a hung assembly in the state where BJP has been in power since 2003. Sources in BSP even suggested that the alliance would not extend support to anyone in case of a hung assembly, and the only probability can be the new CM being an alliance member.
