Will honour Bahuguna's statue in Lucknow: CM Yogi

LUCKNOW: Paying rich tributes to two former Congress chief ministers of the state, CM Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that his government would get a statue of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna installed in the state capital. “Out of a population of more than 2 crore, around 1.25 crore people were actually living in Uttarakhand. He expressed concern over a large number of youth leaving the state. This is a cause of concern and we must focus on it,” he said.Army chief General Bipin Rawat , who was also present at the event, spoke about the hill state’s contribution to armed forces and said that in coming days even women from Uttarakhand would be able to join forces. Bahuguna became UP CM in 1973 but quit Congress in the aftermath of emergency to join Charan Singh’s Bharatiya Lok Dal.Yogi, accompanied by health minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi, daughter of former CM, was addressing a gathering after inaugurating Uttarakhand Mahotsav 2018.Earlier, on Bahuguna’s 99th birth anniversary, Yogi had expressed surprise over the fact that the state capital did not have any statue of former CM and said that it proved that certain people only wanted domination of one family in politics.He also mentioned ND Tiwari, a Congress stalwart who passed away recently and holds the distinction of being the CM of two states, UP and Uttarakhand.Yogi, who also hails from Pauri Garhwal, spoke about the need to preserve one’s culture so that future generations could appreciate their history.
