UP deputy CM surrenders in 3 cases granted bail

ALLAHABAD: Deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Friday surrendered before special court (MP & MLA) in three criminal cases pending against him. He was later granted bail in all the three cases separately.One case was related to alleged forgery, wherein an allegation was made that Maurya committed forgery in collection of money by forming a Durga Puja Committee. The second case is related to the violation of model code of conduct of Election Commission while in the third it was alleged that he compelled authorities to permit a candidate to appear in examination.On Friday, at around 12 noon, the deputy chief minister surrendered before the special court, situated at Allahabad sessions court, in connection with these cases pending against him.Following surrender, his lawyers completed all the formalities and moved bail application before the special court.After hearing cross arguments advanced by the counsel for deputy chief minister and on the other side by the state government counsel, special judge Pawan Kumar Tiwari, who is presiding over special court (MP & MLA), allowed the bail application with the condition that Maurya will cooperate in speedy disposal of trial.On last date of hearing, the special court (MP/MLA) had issued non-bailable warrant against Maurya in the 10-year-old case of alleged forgery wherein it was alleged that money was collected from public after forging papers of a Durga Puja Committee.On September 22, 2008, an FIR was lodged in Mohabatpur Painsa police station of Kaushambi district in Puja pandal case.Similar order was issued in another case registered at police station Dhoomanganj, Allahabad for alleged violating model code of conduct.The third case was registered at police station Kydganj, Allahabad, wherein it was alleged that he compelled authorities to permit a candidate to appear in examination.During the course of arguments, counsel for the deputy CM denied all the allegations on the ground that cases are politically motivated and he had been targeted by his political rivals by framing him in false cases to settle their political scores.However, state counsel supported the prosecution case.
