Bulandshahr: Six arrested for ‘attacking police team, helping accused flee from custody’

Police team are deployed in the village to trace the other accused, he added. “When the police caught one of the five accused, Deepak, local residents blocked their way with sticks and sharp-edged weapons. “On Thursday night, the police team had gone to Bichaula village to arrest five accused against whom a court had issued non-bailable warrants under SC/ST Act for assaulting a Dalit man this year,” said Additional Superintendent of Police, Rural (Bulandshahr), Raees Akhtar.

A heated argument took place between the locals and the policemen. To convince them, the cops showed the warrant to them. But the locals tore the court order apart and attacked the policemen. They also helped Deepak flee from the custody. Three cops were injured in the incident,” Mahesh Rathore, Station House Officer of Khurja Dalit police station, said. The policemen who were injured in the incident are sub-inspector Ankit Chowdhary, constable Virendra and homeguard Jitendra. Their condition is stable, police said. An FIR has been lodged against 26 named, including Deepak, and 35 unidentified residents of the village on various charges, including rioting, voluntarily causing hurt and assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty, Rathore said. “The six local youths who were arrested for attacking the cops were produced before a local court of Bulandshahr which sent them to jail,” said Akhtar.
