AGRA: Aligarh MP, Satish Gautam has written a letter to the vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University accusing that the institution is being run with a " Taliban Mentality " and is a " seminary for terrorists ".Referring to the recent incident when the authorities had to cancel the staging of Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya due to an erroneous map India displayed on the banners and posters, Gautam said that even in such a serious matter, AMU authorities had "down played" it and dismissed it as a routine incident. He said how can J&K not be shown as an integral part of India.He further stated that the VC only has the habit of forming inquiry committees and does nothing. "If they had taken a strict action against students, who spoke against the government and ministers, then things would have been different", he said adding that the VC’s silence on such important issues was giving boost to the students' unlawful activities.Gautam said that when the research scholar turned- Hizbul terrorist was killed by security forces in Jammu, AMU students mourned his death instead of showing happiness over the death of a terrorist. These kind of incidents show that they don’t want to go forward with the nation.He said that whenever he had pointed out at something related to educational issues, the AMU authorities immediately dismiss them on the plea of rules and regulation. "However, when I have talked about the illegal activities in the university, they maintain a silence", he said."People tell me that there are bad things happening in the university every day and the institution is preparing terrorists", he said adding that he is "hurt" by the fact that the university had come to such an impasse.Gautam’s letter is bound to create a fresh controversy, as students are expected not to take his words too kindly. It may be recalled that it was Gautam who had raised the issue of Jinnah’s phots being displayed in the student union’s office.
