Ticket kiosks to to cope with rush at Taj

At present, there are 12 ticket windows, six each on the east and west gates.He said that only cashless facility will be available there. AGRA: The Archeological Survey of India ( ASI ) has decided to put ‘temporary’ kiosks for buying cashless entry tickets (through credit card/money transfer) to Taj Mahal , especially on weekends, following a complaint from a foreign tourist that he had to spend an hour and half in a line to purchase a ticket.The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by ASI director general Usha Sharma in Delhi on Monday.According to officials, the aim of adding the temporary kiosks is to make buying tickets simpler and speedier. The kiosk will also ease pressure on the ticket windows near the gates.Talking to TOI, superintending archeologist, ASI (Agra circle), Vasant Swarankar said that four kiosks will be installed, two each at Shilpgram and Neem Crossing. He added that the administration is trying to operationalise turnstile gates soon and once they become functional, the problem of chaos at the gates will be resolved.Recently, a CISF personnel had allegedly thrashed a visitor after he forcefully tried to enter the complex through the VIP route due to huge crowd on weekend. The CISF had then asked the ASI to cap the number of visitors at the monument for effective crowd control. However, the ASI has not decided anything in this regard so far, confirmed officials.
