The biggest gainer seems to have emerged after the by poll results in #UP is #BehenMayawati. Her stature as a wily politician has further gone up a few notches above. #SamajwadiParty has started to appear a little nebulous in strength as compared to the #BahujanSamajwadiParty. This was quite apparent when Bhatija #AkhileshYadav, who stood grounds against his own chacha #ShivpalYadav and father #MulayamSinghYadav, melted before Bua Mayawati and drove down to her house to express his gratitude. If #Mayawati had not shown the political acumen by not fielding any #BSP candidate the likely results probably would not have been favourable to the Samajwadi Party. All the tomtomming that Akhilesh Yadav is doing with temerity now would have not been possible if Bua ji had not lent her voice to him. Probably, Akhilesh Yadav should be rethinkinng whether the political future of the Samajwadi Party has brightened on its own or the party is celebrating in the reflected glory got from the BSP. Voters of Mayawati seem to be now determined to resurrect their supreme leader back in the thick of politics.
But the defeat of the BJP in Gorakhpur and Phulpur will remain a mystery. Although the SP-BSP combine posed a great challenge, BJP looks to have lost these two seats on the strength of BJP votes only. Else, how come these two seats which won by the BJP with lakhs of votes lost by thousands. It is very difficult to swallow.
