ALLAHABAD: Putting an end to all the speculations in the air on the issue that Kinnar akhara could merge into any of the 13 akharas of the country, it finally joined Juna akhara in the Sangam city on Saturday late evening.
Prominent office bearers of the Juna and Kinnar akhara performed a joint prayer of river Yamuna on Saturday in the presence of chief patron of the Juna akhara, Mahant Hari Giri. The Acharya of the akhara, Mahamandaleshwar Luxmi Narayan Tripathi had announced couple of days ago that Kinnar akhara would not merge with Juna akhara but would associate with it, thereby retaining its independent identity.“We have been talking to Juna akhara since 2016 and there were major differences over certain issues, but we have decided to associate with it and retain our independent identity by keeping our name intact,” said Tripathi.Likewise, chief patron of the Juna akhara, Mahant Hari Giri said, “It was for the head of the Kinnar akhara to decide whether to join Juna akhara or not but now that they have decided to associate with us, we would take the issue in the general body meeting which would give its approval after which they would be associated with us”.
