LUCKNOW: Two days after BSP and SP announced their alliance, a list of BSP candidates on all 38 seats in UP went viral on social media, sending the party into a tizzy. The list, issued on party letterhead and having the signature of state president RS Kushwaha named Mayawati as party candidate from Saharanpur BSP promptly issued a statement clarifying the party had not made any such announcement and that the list was ‘fake’. While announcing their alliance on Saturday, SP and BSP had not revealed the seats they would contest.“BJP and RSS are so worried by our alliance they have started their mischief. Whenever BSP issues a list of candidates, it’ll be announced by Behenji and will be signed by the national general secretary,” said a senior party member.Kushwaha said a letter with his fake signature was being circulated on social media and filed a police complaint alleging fraud and conspiracy. Police lodged a case against unidentified persons at Gautampalli police station.“The list, shown to have been issued on January 13, shows BSP has declared candidates for 38 Lok Sabha seats. I have not issued any such letter and my signature is fake. BSP and SP leaders have not even declared which seats they are contesting. The letter is being used to spread confusion,” he said.“This is a criminal act against which I will take appropriate action,” he added.Party members also pointed out anomalies in the list. “Kaiser Jahan is shown contesting from Sitapur but she is not even in the party. There are others who’re not contesting this time. Even the logo on the letterhead is not original while there is a clear difference between Kushwaha’s real signature and the one on the list,” said a party member.
