The Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) though switched over to BJP after polls.Congress too is set to pitch for Opposition unity in Mamata’s rally. RLD national spokesperson Anil Dubey confirmed Jayant’s participation in the rally, saying it was a sign of pushing Opposition unity beyond UP, where BJP won the maximum 71 seats in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh satraps Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati , who hammered out a historic poll alliance five days ago, are set to take Opposition unity beyond state boundaries by attending a mega rally called by Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Saturday. This also comes close on heels of RJD leader and former Bihar chief minister Tejaswi Yadav meeting Akhilesh and Mayawati to ramp up the Opposition like the RJD-JD(U) combine that stopped BJP’s juggernaut in 2015. While Congress president Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to attend the event, which is being organised by TMC to garner support for a nationwide anti-BJP front, the party may be represented by its leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.Political experts view this as another move by UP satraps to go national and strengthen itself vis-a-vis the Congress.

RLD chief Ajit Singh, who’s still in talks with Akhilesh for cementing the gathbandan, will send his son Jayant to the rally. The move is being seen as a combined Opposition from UP lending traction to the pan-India anti-BJP platform ahead of Lok Sabha elections. While Akhilesh, during a recent interview with TOI, confirmed his participation at the mega rally to showcase opposition unity, BSP boss Mayawati decided to send Rajya Sabha MP Satish Chandra as her emissary. Earlier, she skipped RJD chief Lalu’s rally in Patna on August 17, saying she would not share stage with any political party without a seat-sharing arrangement. The development also comes amid RLD and SP giving final touches to the pre-poll pact, which is expected to be announced soon.
