After doing television and commercials, Harshita is now all set to debut in Bollywood with the film 'Kanpur', the shooting of which is currently going on in Kanpur. We caught up with the actress in between the shooting schedule where she not only spoke about her stay in Kanpur but also how Bollywood happened to her and the difficulties she had to face on this path.“I come from a family where everyone is pretty well educated. My parents are doctors and that’s why I was also expected to have a professional degree,” says Harshita, adding, “In reality, I always wanted to be an actress. I am a certified Kathak dancer and from my school days, I used to perform on stage. Par jab mere parents well-qualified thay toh isliye I studied engineering and by the time I could search for a job, I started getting acting offers and finally ended up making a career in acting,” she adds.Harshita Gaur enjoying chaat in Kanpur (BCCL/ AS Rathor)Harshita, who is playing the lead actress and a Kanpur girl in her upcoming film, is quite impressed with Kanpur. She shares, “Before visiting Kanpur, I came to know that the city is very famous for its chatpati chaat but what I found in Kanpur is that the girls of the city are just as chatpati. Yahan ki har ladki mein ek alag hi tashan hai. Kanpur ki women jis tarah se baat karti hain toh aisa nikal kar aata hai ki….boss we don’t care. Aisa lagta nahi hai ki woh kisi se dabne waali hain. This attitude and body language of Kanpur girls really helped me in getting into the skin of my character. I also tried using the words used by Kanpur girls so that my character of a Kanpurite girl looks real on screen,” says Harshita.After doing television series 'Sadda Haq', on the professional front, things were not smooth for Harshita and there was a time when she got into depression. Ask her about the same and she says, “After 'Sadda Haq' it was a low phase for me. Par jaisi news thi ki mujhe therapy leni padi woh sab sach nahi tha. Most actors struggle for work after reaching Mumbai but I was lucky enough to get work within 20-days of my reaching the city. After 'Sadda Haq', I was getting a lot of offers but I kept refusing them as they were not giving me artistic satisfaction. Issi wajah se two and a half year mere paas koi kaam nahi tha and this was little depressing for me. I experienced that for the first time in my life but now, I might not be working every day, but I find myself content. Everything is now sorted and I am enjoying what I am doing presently,” she says.Harshita Gaur in Kanpur (BCCL/ AS Rathor)And though most people celebrated Valentine’s Day, Harshita chose the day to work. “Just now I want to focus on my career. I have many good friends in Mumbai. I know that they all are always with me. As far as a romantic relationship is concerned, I really don’t have time for it and that's because work is my priority,” says, Harshita, who will soon be seen in a Telugu movie too.— Jha.Sumit@timesgroup.com
