LUCKNOW: Minutes after medical education minister Ashutosh Tandon asked doctors and staff at King George's Medical University (KGMU) to behave well with patients and their attendants, chaos broke in the new out patient department (OPD) of the medical university, when a brawl ensued between a patient's attendants and KGMU employees, on Thursday afternoon.Three contractual employees at KGMU, were accused of beating up a patient's attendant and were later suspended by the university, after a video of the incident reached the KGMU administration.The police station at Chowk, under which the university falls, was also officially informed by the KGMU chief proctor for action to be taken against the three employees.On Thursday afternoon, an elderly female patient of cancer was said to have used the staff toilet at the OPD block, which allegedly led to the incident. After an alleged heated exchange of words, son of the Kakori resident, was then seen in the video, to being pushed and slapped by three employees, even as a crowd of other patients looked on.The incident occurred shortly after cabinet minister Ashutosh Tandon had brought up a recent incident at KGMU's trauma center where a doctor had allegedly declined a patient admission, after an attendant of the patient had spoken harshly with him. On prima facie evidence, three contractual employees working as computer operators at the registration counters were identified.The administration, then wrote to the company that had hired the contractual employees, informing it of immediate suspension of the said three workers, and asking it for reinstating other workers on the vacant posts.The company was also asked to make sure the three workers are not posted at any position at KGMU. An official complaint to the police was also made, with names of the workers and that action against them be taken by the police under relevant legal sections.
