Last-mile walk after Metro ride triggers feeder service demand

LMRC should run buses or vans in colonies near Metro stations as in Delhi for the convenience of passengers. A feeder service will be safe and convenient for women and elderly. "Shipra Singh, a commuter, said, "I have to walk a kilometre to reach Badshahnagar Metro station, as I live in the colony. "ASP traffic Martand Prakash Singh told TOI that traffic police are in talks with LMRC to figure out a way to get away with the problem of irregular parking outside Metro stations. "Commuters also complained about e-rickshaws and autos blocking station exits and creating bottlenecks on roads.

LUCKNOW: The regular Metro users in the city are happy on getting a quick, easy and comfortable mode of travel but have started feeling the pinch of the absence of a proper feeder service The commuters either have to walk distances or depend on e-rickshaws, autos and tempos that flock to stations and park near gates, seeking passengers while hampering traffic on roads.In a reality check on Thursday, TOI found public transport vehicles haphazardly parked at Hazratganj, Husainganj, Munshipulia, Vishwavidyalay, Badshanagar and Charbagh Metro station exits with no police personnel around to tackle the situation.Aditya Singh, standing at Lekhraj station gate, said, "I have come to receive my father because there is no feeder service. LMRC should run buses or vans in colonies near Metro stations as in Delhi for the convenience of passengers."Shipra Singh, a commuter, said, "I have to walk a kilometre to reach Badshahnagar Metro station, as I live in the colony. The weather is okay and hence I could walk but as summers peak, covering this stretch on foot won't be possible in scorching heat. A feeder service will be safe and convenient for women and elderly."Commuters also complained about e-rickshaws and autos blocking station exits and creating bottlenecks on roads. Autos, e-rickshaws and tempos were parked outside Munshipulia Metro station, eating up road space and causing traffic snarls.Mahesh Dubey, a commuter, said, "The Badshahnagar area becomes very congested during peak hours as auto drivers park haphazardly while waiting for commuters. There is a police outpost but cops don't do anything." Lucknow University students also complained about traffic snarls at Vishwavidyalay Metro station when most classes get over.Savita, a Phd scholar, said, "I daily find e-rickshaws or autos clogging the lane next to station. It becomes difficult for us to pass through without getting hurt."ASP traffic Martand Prakash Singh told TOI that traffic police are in talks with LMRC to figure out a way to get away with the problem of irregular parking outside Metro stations.
