UP: Congress ropes in Anupriya Patel’s mom

Anupriya floated Apna Dal (Sonelal) in 2016 and was recently given the poll symbol of cup and plate. Krishna Patel fielded 70 candidates during 2017 UP assembly polls as well. Chandel is married to Krishna Patel’s younger daughter, Pallavi. It’s likely Congress will now field them on their own party symbol.

LUCKNOW: The tussle between Union minister Anupriya Patel and her mother is now set for another showdown in the run-up to 2019 Lok Sabha polls.Congress on Saturday first announced Anupriya’s mother Krishna Patel has entered into an alliance, but later said she and her another son-in-law Pankaj Niranjan Singh Chandel have been inducted into Congress. Chandel is married to Krishna Patel’s younger daughter, Pallavi. Congress also announced it will field two candidates from Krishna Patel’s outfit, which is locked in a legal battle with Anupriya-led Apna Dal (Sonelal). The candidates will be fielded from Basti and Pilibhit. It’s likely Congress will now field them on their own party symbol. Anupriya floated Apna Dal (Sonelal) in 2016 and was recently given the poll symbol of cup and plate. Currently, she and her husband Ashish Patel are running the party. The husband-wife duo recently asserted that UP unit of BJP was not giving them due respect, but later reconciled differences with the saffron outfit. On Friday, the duo came out of a meeting with BJP president Amit Shah after settling for two seats.Earlier, hours before Election Commission (EC) announced polls, nine Apna Dal leaders and supporters were rewarded with berths as chairpersons of several bodies, which carries the perks and stature of minister of state rank.Congress’ move to rope in Anupriya’s other family members may create a bigger rift in the clan over property rights during electioneering. Krishna Patel fielded 70 candidates during 2017 UP assembly polls as well.
