Priyanka to take her Ganga sojourn to Bihar

LUCKNOW: AICC general secretary and party’s eastern UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi, who would be travelling down the Ganga in a steamer from Allahabad to Varanasi, will travel further to Ballia, in the second phase of her tour, and cross the river to touch Bihar at Chhapra.Priyanka will undertake the second leg of her river journey from the end of this month.In the second phase, Priyanka will cover a 210-km stretch from Varanasi to Ballia, touching about 150 villages along the banks of the Ganga. She is expected to pay obeisance at the ashram of Raja Bali, who is known for his charity and compassion and the place is a pilgrimage visited by a large number of people every year. This second phase is likely to be of three days.In the first phase, Priyanka will cover Allahabad, Mirzapur and finally Varanasi, where she plans to celebrate Holi with her supporters and party workers after visiting the Kashi Vishwanath temple.From Varanasi, she will resume her river route, campaigning for Congress candidates and crossing Ghazipur, Chandauli and finally Balia and then sail to the other side of the river at Chhapra in neighbouring Bihar.Congress president Rahul Gandhi has assigned 42 parliamentary constituencies of the state in eastern UP to Priyanka, leading her to kick off her election campaign in this region by taking the river route from Allahabad.While declaring her name at the eastern UP in-charge, Rahul had said that he wanted Priyanka to revive the Congress in the state and ensure that there is a Congress chief minister in 2022.Priyanka has taken up the challenge and, during her voyage on the Ganga, will meet the poor and backwards inhibiting villages along the river by knocking at their doors directly as part of her strategy.In Ballia, where she is likely to end her second and final phase, Priyanka might visit Nagwa — the native place of freedom fighter Mangal Pandey.
