Holi: Drunk driving leaves 12 dead, 300 injured

LUCKNOW: At least 12 people died and around 300 were injured in road accidents in the city during Holi revelry. "Of them, three were brought dead," said CMS KGMU Dr SN Shankhwar.Meanwhile, 108 emergency ambulance service received 170 SOS calls in the city on Holi. Three persons also drowned.Doctors said about 80% of the accidents occurred due to drunk driving.Brothers Akash (27) and Vinod Prajapati (24) died after a speeding car rammed their bike on Shaheed Path on Wednesday. The car driver was said to be drunk.Two persons were killed and seven others injured when a speeding car crashed into a shop in Sarojininagar.A 28-year old man died after his bike hit a divider in Rajajipuram on Thursday, while a 23-year-old biker was run over by a van in Kakori on Thursday.As per chief medical superintendent of Civil Hospital, Dr Ashutosh Dubey, 72 persons injured in road accidents were brought to the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday.In KGMU, 120 people injured in road accidents were brought.
