Lt Col conned of Rs 75K by ‘airline executive’

A short while later, a man posing as the airline executive called me. “Later, I got to know from the bank that Rs 65,000 was withdrawn first and then 5,000 twice. He asked me to tell him my bank account details as my flight booking had been cancelled. The bank officials told me to approach the police for lodging an FIR,” said Singh. “We will ask the airline to assist in the investigation,” he said.

LUCKNOW: A lieutenant colonel posted in Central Command was conned of Rs 75,000 while checking his flight status on Saturday.Lt Col Yogesh Singh Thakur (name changed) said he called up the customer care number of a private airline to know the status of his Lucknow-Patna flight of a private airline.“I told the executive about my flight details but then the call snapped. A short while later, a man posing as the airline executive called me. He asked me to tell him my bank account details as my flight booking had been cancelled. To restore it, he said he needed to make a payment through my account,” said Singh.In the process, he revealed all details of his card. “The man called me multiple times for procuring OTPs generated on the pretext of making payment,” Singh stated in his complaint to the police. “Later, I got to know from the bank that Rs 65,000 was withdrawn first and then 5,000 twice. The bank officials told me to approach the police for lodging an FIR,” said Singh. Cybercell in charge Abhay Mishra said a case has been registered and probe is underway. “We will ask the airline to assist in the investigation,” he said.
