We know how to adopt socialism in real life and in letter and spirit and do not believe in dividing the society only for political gains. The BJP seems to be schizophrenic. The party stands for upliftment of the downtrodden, Dalits, backwards and oppressed sections of the society irrespective of their religion and caste,” Akhilesh said after paying floral tributes at the statue of the socialist ideologue at Lohia park in Lucknow. “I wonder which principles are being spoken of. On one hand, they try to coopt Gandhi Ji, Bhagat Singh , Sardar Patel, Dr Ambedkar and Dr Lohia and on the other hand they follow people who these leaders opposed and disagreed with,” Akhilesh tweeted. He also tweeted a sentence from a piece written by Lohia in Hindi, where he said the biggest battle of Indian history is that between the liberals and the fundamentalists within the Hindu religion, adding that those who talk about Lohia should also follow his teachings.“Samajwadi Party does not need any certification on socialism from the BJP.

LUCKNOW: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) got into a war of words over the idea of ‘samajwad’ as mooted by socialist ideologue Ram Manohar Lohia on his birth anniversary on Saturday. It all started with a tweet from Prime Minister Narendra Modi , in which he attacked the SP for not adhering to the principals of socialism as propagated by Lohia.“Today, they are betraying the principles of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia, tomorrow they will also betray the people of India,” Modi tweeted, recommending his followers to read his blog about his thoughts on why those who claim to follow Lohia have let him down. The blog titled ‘Remembering Dr Lohia’ was a scathing attack on dynastic politics, which was disapproved by the socialist leader and how “parties falsely claiming to be followers of Lohia have sided with the Congress party” which had sent Lohia to jail several times under its regime. The attack from Modi left the SP leadership rattled. “I wonder which principles are being spoken of. The BJP seems to be schizophrenic.
