NISHAD boss meets Yogi in big political churn

NISHAD party chief Sanjay Nishad’s son Praveen joined SP to contest the bypoll and wrested the seat from BJP, which held sway over Gorakhpur since 1991. LUCKNOW: The NISHAD party that shot into political limelight after ending Yogi Adityanath’s unchallenged 20-year reign over Gorakhpur in the 2018 bypoll, created ripples again on Friday when party chief Sanjay Nishad met the chief minister in Lucknow, hours after he snapped ties with the SP-BSP alliance and declared his will to go alone or with any other party.While BJP is yet to declare a candidate from Gorakhpur, NISHAD party’s overture has sent political circles agog about a possible masterstroke by BJP to avenge its humiliating defeat in a bypoll last year when NISHAD party chief’s son Praveen wrested the Gorakhpur on a SP ticket. Reports suggest Sanjay Nishad was upset with Samajwadi Party for delaying announcement of candidates for Gorakhpur and Maharajganj parliamentary constituencies where he wanted to field his candidates.Though Akhilesh promised a swift decision, NISHAD party workers were upset their party symbol or name did not figure on the alliance’s campaign material.The move is sure to blunt hopes of the SP-BSP alliance to seek support from Nishads, which according to rough estimates, form the second biggest demographic group in Gorakhpur parliamentary constituency with an estimated 3.5 lakh votes or 15% of the electorate.
