LUCKNOW: People coming to pay tax under a one-time settlement scheme at special camps organized by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation LMC ) in eight zones are having a harrowing time due to problems in server and unavailability of hand-held PoS swipe machines. Even after paying full tax at the camp, several people complained that the payment is not still reflecting in their accounts.LMC had launched a one-time-settlement scheme for more than 5.5 lakh house tax defaulters, with total dues amounting to over Rs 790 crore. So far, around 1 lakh people have cleared their dues worth Rs 77 crore. The scheme offers interest waiver and a discount of 20% on the principal amount. Despite all the camps witnessing a huge rush, the corporation has made poor arrangements.TOI did a reality check at the zonal camps on Friday. In Husainabad, people complained about server failures, which resulted in payment delay. Anshul Mishra, a taxpayer, said, “I am waiting to deposit tax since last two hours, but there are server issues... They should have made proper arrangements before starting the tax collection.”The scene was no different at Gomtinagar camp. Another taxpayer Vishesh Sharma said, “It is frustrating to stand in the queue in this scorching heat and the worst part is that I will be late to my office.”In Indiranagar , there were no hand-held PoS machines to make payments through debit and credit cards. Nigam Joshi, a taxpayer, said, “I have to pay Rs 70,000 house tax. I thought I would make the payment through card, But the facility was not available. Now, I will have to bring cash or go to other camp.” In-charge of tax collection in LMC, Ashok Singh said, “Server failures will be rectified. I have already instructed a team of engineers to record all the transactions. We have arranged hand-held machines and the situation will improve from Saturday.”
