On home turf, BJP & Congress cadre greet Joshi

UPCC spokesperson, Kishor Varshney, said, "We have issued a show cause notice to Pandey and are identifying others who were present to welcome Joshi." The huge turnout of supporters included around 15-20 Congress workers including the vice-president of the District Congress Committee Sant Prasad Pandey.The UP minister's convoy entered Allahabad from Phaphamau and a large number of BJP workers welcomed her at Phaphamau Bridge. The convoy passed through Teliarganj market and later reached Balson Crossing, where Joshi paid tributes to statues of Rishi Bharadhwaj, Mahatma Gandhi and Deen Dayal Upadhyay. She successfully contested from Lucknow Cantonment on a BJP ticket in the 2017 UP assembly elections. Joshi was a professor in Allahabad University.

ALLAHABAD: Visiting the city for the first time after being declared Bharatiya Janata Party 's (BJP) candidate from Allahabad parliamentary constituency for the Lok Sabha elections, UP minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi received a rousing welcome from supporters not just from her own party, but Congress as well on Saturday.Joshi had been with Congress till 2017, after which she joined BJP. She successfully contested from Lucknow Cantonment on a BJP ticket in the 2017 UP assembly elections. Joshi was a professor in Allahabad University. She later went on to become the mayor of the city in 1995. The cavalcade reached Medical Crossing, where she garlanded a statue of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shashtri.Later, she garlanded statues of Chunan Guru at Ghantaghar, her late father and former UP chief minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna and Subhash Chandra Bose in Civil Lines , and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar at Allahabad high court Crossing.
