LUCKNOW: Thunderstorm, which left a trail of destruction in the city in the wee hours of Sunday, failed to bring any relief from scorching heat prevailing for the past two days. The condition is expected to worsen in the coming days, with the mercury expected to touch 39-40 degrees Celsius by the weekend.The thunderstorm struck the city at around 1.10am and lasted for an hour. The sudden violent gust of winds measuring up to 40-50 km uprooted trees, electricity poles and hoardings at many places, throwing rail and air traffic out of gear. The winds were accompanied by thunder and lightening. However, there was not much rainfall as the city only witnessed drizzle.Despite thunderstorm, the minimum temperature stood at 22.7 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal. The maximum settled at 37.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. The drizzle brought moisture in the atmosphere, resulting in humidity during the day.State Met director J P Gupta said excessive heat in the past two days was responsible for the thunderstorm. On Monday, the sky is expected to be clear, with maximum and minimum around 37 and 22 degrees Celsius.The temperatures would decline by a degree or two on Tuesday and Wednesday, and touch 39-40 degrees by the weekend.
