Uttar Pradesh’s ‘love jihad’ law challenged in Supreme Court

Lucknow: The recently promulgated “love jihad” law of Uttar Pradesh has been challenged in the Supreme Court. Two lawyers and a law researcher have moved the top court against the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government’s new law against forced religious conversion. This comes days after the state government on Tuesday cleared a draft ordinance to deal with religious conversion for the sake of marriage, which could land violators in jail for up to 10 years.
