In a major boost to regional connectivity in the NCR, the UP government in its Budget 2021-22 allocated Rs 1,326 crore for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project.
The Budget allocation for the Regional Rapid Transit System project, which is being executed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), is nearly one-and-a-half times the amount that was allocated last year. In the Budget 2020-21, the government had allocated Rs 900 crore.

“The budgetary allocation for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project is Rs 426 crore more than last year. It will further strengthen the resolve to complete the corridor’s priority section by 2023 and the entire corridor by 2025,” said an NCRTC spokesperson.

Earlier this year, the central government had made a budgetary provision of Rs 4,472 crore in the Union Budget. The total project cost of the corridor has been pegged at Rs 30,724 crore, out of which the UP government will have to provide Rs 6,500 crore.

In terms of completion status, the 17km priority stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai on the RRTS corridor is going on in full swing. According to officials, 40% of the civil work on this stretch is complete.
The superstructure on this stretch is now visible. Also, more than 375 piers have been erected so far while work on the viaduct is going on. “The 1km viaduct is ready (500m between Duhai and Guldhar, and 500m near Sahibabad station),” said an NCRTC official.

The 82.15km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi till Modipuram in Meerut will have eight RRTS stations in Ghaziabad, including Sahibabad, New Bus Adda, Guldhar, Duhai, Muradnagar, Modinagar (South) and Modinagar (North). Of this, 70.5km will be on elevated platforms and 11.5km will be underground. Two maintenance depots, one at Duhai and Modipuram, too will come up.
