UP govt imposes weekend lockdown across state, night curfew in districts with over 500 active cases

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday announced a statewide weekend lockdown to curb the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state. The weekend lockdown will come into force from April 24. As per the new directive, districts with more than 500 active Covid-19 cases will also remain under night curfew, effective between 8 PM to 7 AM every day, until further orders.

In his order to a special Covid-19 task force, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Every citizen must contribute to make Corona curfew a success. As far as necessary, do not go out of the house. Celebrate festivals at home. If you go out, then wear a mask. There must be no crowds at public places. It should be strictly implemented."

On returning migrants

CM Yogi Adityanath directed authorities to ensure a smooth return for migrants coming back from Delhi, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. He also asked the officials to make sure that people returning from other states are tested for Covid-19. The chief minister also asked officials to take extra precautions in the state`s border districts.

On next phase of vaccination drive

Welcoming the Centre`s decision to open vaccination for all adults from May 1, CM Adityanath asked the authorities to step up facilities at the vaccination centres to cater to the additional task. "Vaccination is the most effective way to gain protection from Covid=19. So far, the vaccination drive has been held in UP in a successful manner. The next phase of vaccination will prove decisive in our fight against Covid=19. Ensure all necessary arrangements for the drive starting from May 1," the chief minister said.
