GST Council`s big meeting on September 17, know important issues including petrol

The 45th meeting of the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Council will be held in Lucknow on 17 September. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will chair the meeting. In this meeting, natural gas including CNG, petrol, diesel and some other important issues are likely to be discussed. Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said that the 45th meeting of the GST Council will be held on September 17 at 11 am in Lucknow.

He said that the meeting will be attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Choudhary and ministers nominated as members of the GST Council from all the states of the country. Important points related to GST will be discussed in detail in the meeting.

May initiate talks with states to include petroleum products in the GST purview. Based on the suggestion of the Petroleum Ministry, the Center may take up the issue of bringing natural gas under GST with the GST Council.

States are reluctant to consider bringing high revenue earning petroleum products under the purview of GST. But this year there has been a lot of improvement in GST collection. Therefore, the suggestion of the Ministry of Petroleum can be considered.

The proposal to consider food delivery apps like Zomato-Swiggy as restaurants and levy 5 percent GST on the supplies made by them can be discussed.

The proposal to make these food delivery apps liable to pay GST on restaurant-related services supplied to them is one of the more than four dozen proposals that the council discussed in its meeting in Lucknow on September 17, an official said.

Will do These apps will have to deposit GST with the government for the deliveries made by them. They will give this GST at the place of restaurant. However, there will be no additional tax burden on the final consumers.
