KANPUR: Moving files in a government office is not an easy job. But Mohan, a 45-year-old contractual employee of Vikas Bhawan in Kanpur, moved a gunny sack full of them every day - to a scrap dealer in the neighbourhood for a fixed sum of Rs 60. The money bought him a quarter bottle of potent country-made liquor and a peaceful sleep every night. At least until he wasnt found out last week and promptly sacked.. A case has also been filed against him.Records were recovered from scrap dealerThe matter came to light when officials on Friday searched the old age pension documents and couldnt find them. Later, records of the old age pension scheme from 2017 to 2022 were found missing. When the staff were questioned, it came to light that Mohan diligently carried a gunny sack full of official papers to the scrap dealer every evening. When questioned, he told others that it was all scrap. The pension records of 2023 were later recovered from the scrap dealers shop. Scrap dealer Deepak Jaiswal told investigators that Mohan used to bring documents in a sack every day for sale for the past three months I did not know where he used to bring this from, he said. Jaiswal said he sold all the scrap to a wholesaler based in Beconganj. Officials were making efforts to recover the rest of the documents too. Taking cognizance of the matter, chief development officer Sudhir Kumar took strict action and got a case registered against the accused
