Not many takers for bus MST despite concessions

Lucknow: Nearly two months after the Lucknow City Transport Services (LCTS) slashed the charges of its monthly season ticket (MST), it has failed to entice riders.According to officials, from under 70 before September, MST membership now stands at around 90.We had been trying to increase the uptake of MST and overall ridership of city buses. We have slashed the rates by almost half but that has not translated into better response. We are brainstorming to come up with other strategies to maximize the uptake of MST, said LCTS managing director RK Tripathi. In September, the LCTS had slashed the MST rates to attract more passengers and increase overall ridership of the city buses to over 30,000 per day. Earlier, the MST was billed on 48 trips (24 days) in a month. This, however, was perceived as not too lucrative. Correspondingly, MST rates were slashed, and riders would have to pay only for 36 trips (18 days) in a month. Besides, for students, senior citizens and women the MST rates were further slashed to 32 trips (16 days). However, this didnt enthuse the riders. We have already slashed the rates and further reduction does not seem prudent. However, we are planning to install hoardings in public spaces like metro stations. Besides, we are also planning to increase the number of trips on prominent routes so that the maximum visibility translates into better uptake, said another official of LCTS.We also published the following articles recentlyMoodys slashes Chinas credit outlook to negativeMoodys downgrades Chinas government credit ratings to negative, citing concerns over surging local government debt and a deepening property crisis.
