The officiating director general of police Abhinav Kumar on Monday held a meeting with all senior police officials of the State for the safe conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Considering the possibility that some people might protest against the recently passed Uniform Civil Code bill ahead of the elections, he directed senior officials to ensure advance security arrangements for chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during his proposed tours and programmes across the State. He asked the officials to appoint security personnel in plain clothes besides making all possible arrangements for CMs safety. The DGP directed them to carefully observe and comply with the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the elections. He said that all district in-charges should start preparing the police force management plan immediately as per the ECI standards. The training of the police force deployed for election duty should also be completed on time. He also asked the officials concerned to keep the Police Headquarters guidelines in mind regarding the seniority of inspectors and sub inspectors while appointing the police station in- charges ahead of elections. Besides this, they were also directed to determine critical polling stations by carrying out vulnerability mapping in each district as per the ECI instructions. The DGP further said that the police should communicate with people or groups that can potentially hold protests or demonstrations during the elections. He asked them to talk to such groups about peacefully conducting protests without disturbing the law and order. People should be made aware that strict legal action will be taken against those who block roads or cause public nuisance in the name of holding protests. He said that the authorities should also ensure flawless security arrangements as per the security category given to VVIPs visiting the State during the elections.
