Cops seize illicit alcohol worth 2.25 crore

LUCKNOW: In a joint operation, city police along with the excise department seized illicit liquor worth over Rs 2 crore on Saturday morning in Sarojininagar . Working on specific inputs, the team raided hideout of liquor smugglers in Anaura village. Additional superintendent of Lucknow (east) Shivram Yadav said illegal alcohol smuggling had gone up ever since liquor was banned in Bihar. They recovered five drums in which spirit was being ferried from Punjab to Jharkhand to produce spurious liquor. The smugglers used fake stickers to show that the bottles were for selling in UP and Jharkhand.

Working on specific inputs, the team raided hideout of liquor smugglers in Anaura village. A truck was found parked near an under construction flyover. They recovered five drums in which spirit was being ferried from Punjab to Jharkhand to produce spurious liquor. Police found that the smugglers were carrying 25,000 litres of denatured spirit apart from transporting hundreds of whisky bottles.Unnao resident Gokaran was arrested while three people, including the truck driver, managed to flee. The smugglers used fake stickers to show that the bottles were for selling in UP and Jharkhand. Additional superintendent of Lucknow (east) Shivram Yadav said illegal alcohol smuggling had gone up ever since liquor was banned in Bihar.
