'Depressed', retired IAS officer's son kills self

LUCKNOW: Morning walkers at Gomti Riverfront were shocked to see body of a man floating in the river on Monday. "We called him in the morning and asked him to identify the body and he confirmed it was his son's," said Yadav. Police could not find the body which in the morning was spotted by walkers.Gomtinagar police inspector Vijay Mal Yadav said Saurabh lived with his parents in Viram Khand-V, Gomtinagar and he was son of Tirath Raj Tripathi, a retired IAS officer.

With the help of Aadhar and other cards recovered the deceased was identified as Saurabh Tripathi . Police said Saurabh, 30, was depressed as he could not crack civil services examination despite three attempts.At around 9pm on Sunday, a passerby saw Saurabh jump into the river and dialed 100. The control room informed Gautampalli police station which passed the buck on Gomtinagar police. The latter launched search operation with the help of divers after four hours. Police could not find the body which in the morning was spotted by walkers.Gomtinagar police inspector Vijay Mal Yadav said Saurabh lived with his parents in Viram Khand-V, Gomtinagar and he was son of Tirath Raj Tripathi, a retired IAS officer. Saurabh's elder brother lives with his family in the US where he is employed while his sister is a government officer and posted in Uttarakhand. After completing BTech and MBA, Saurabh was preparing for civil services for the past three years.Police said Tirath Raj Tripathi had informed police control room on Monday night that his son had gone out for evening walk but had not returned. "We called him in the morning and asked him to identify the body and he confirmed it was his son's," said Yadav. Since no suicide note was found, police will wait for post mortem report.
