Muslim families to join meat-sellers’ protest

Speaking to TOI, over 300 Muslim families of the city said they would join the protest to be held in Bareilly. But government has failed to do so, so I have decided to join the meat-sellers' protest along with my family. She said she would join the protest against the government which wasn't concerned with the loss of only means of livelihood for so many families. We all will go to Bareilly on May 10.Mohammad Anwar, a resident of Hazratganj, said, "I want this crisis to end soon that's why I am going to join meat-sellers in their protest." On March 24, meat-sellers went on strike in protest against the crackdown.

Lucknow: It's been over a month since the crackdown on unlicensed slaughterhouses and joining forces with meat-sellers, who plan to go on a nation-wide strike on May 10, would be many Muslim families from the city. The protest is being organized by All India Jamiatul Quresh Association.On March 21, most of the meat shops were closed by Lucknow municipal corporation (LMC) officials and police. On March 24, meat-sellers went on strike in protest against the crackdown. However, their licenses expired on March 31. Speaking to TOI, over 300 Muslim families of the city said they would join the protest to be held in Bareilly. Rashid Khan, a city-based businessman, said, "It's a serious issue. Muslims have celebrated their festival without meat and we might have to continue this way in festivals to come. Everyone hoped that the government will provide licenses to meat-sellers. But government has failed to do so, so I have decided to join the meat-sellers' protest along with my family."Government school teacher Rehnuma Bano said recently she organised two official events and a religious event where she ended up serving vegetarian dishes along with a few chicken delicacies, which was distressing for her. "I have eight members in my family, including my parents, husband, children and two siblings. We all will join the protest," she said.Aliganj resident Shaista Rizwan runs an NGO in the city. She said she would join the protest against the government which wasn't concerned with the loss of only means of livelihood for so many families. "We are a joint family and there are 15 members in my family. We all will go to Bareilly on May 10.Mohammad Anwar, a resident of Hazratganj, said, "I want this crisis to end soon that's why I am going to join meat-sellers in their protest."
