Mayawati heads to Bhopal, Yogi steps up campaigning

LUCKNOW: After staying away from campaigning in local bodies elections, BSP chief Mayawati reached Bhopal on Thursday where she will address a rally on Friday. While Mayawati reached the neighbouring state, chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi stepped up BJP's election campaign for civic elections in UP. BSP leaders said that Mayawati's Bhopal visit was planned much earlier. She has been instructing party cadre through internal meetings," said a party leader close to Mayawati. Even the Congress, too, roped in its national leaders like MP Ghulam Nabi Azad and UP Congress Congress chief Raj Babbar to oversee party's campaign.

While Mayawati reached the neighbouring state, chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi stepped up BJP's election campaign for civic elections in UP. The CM addressed five rallies on Thursday, including one in Lucknow.Mayawati, in fact, went a day ahead of her scheduled rally, in a departure from her usual practice of making her visit outside Lucknow orNew Delhi to address a rally just one day affair. BSP leaders said that Mayawati's Bhopal visit was planned much earlier. "She reached Bhopal to meet party workers and take feedback about ground level political situation in the BJP ruled state," said a senior BSP leader.The BSP chief has stayed away from campaigning despite her party contesting the local bodies elections on its election symbol after 17 years. Mayawati did not hold a rally any where in UP on November 18 to coincide with four month of her resigning from Rajya Sabha in protest of not being allowed to speak on the issue of Dalit atrocities in Saharanpur. In contrast, Yogi has been spearheading BJP's campaign in civic polls. Even the Congress, too, roped in its national leaders like MP Ghulam Nabi Azad and UP Congress Congress chief Raj Babbar to oversee party's campaign."She is a national level leader. She has been instructing party cadre through internal meetings," said a party leader close to Mayawati. The BSP chief had decided to contest the local bodies elections on party symbol after her party got decimated in the UP assembly elections.BSP MP Ashok Siddharth, who is also in charge of BSP's Bhopal unit, said the objective of Behenji's visit is to expose BJP's misrule in the state.Mayawati is likely to be joined by her brother and party vice-president Anand Kumar and BSP MP Satish Chandra Mishra when she addresses the rally in Bhopal's parade ground.
