Restaurant owner, staff booked

BRIEFLYLudhiana: The police have booked the owner and two employees of Ghanta Ghar restaurant at Sarabha Nagar for violating norms. Earlier, the police had registered a case under Section 188 of the IPC against restaurant owner Kirat Bajaj and two employees — Rajneesh Thakur and Aarju Kumar, for allegedly serving ‘hookah’ in the restaurant without any licence. The accused have been identified as Ajay Kumar of Shimlapuri and Rakesh Kumar, alias Rinku, of Sahnewal. IO Sukhpal Singh said the case was registered against the owner and two employees as they used to keep the restaurant open even after 11 pm against the orders. According to the police, the accused have confessed to their involvement in at least seven loot incidents.

Earlier, the police had registered a case under Section 188 of the IPC against restaurant owner Kirat Bajaj and two employees — Rajneesh Thakur and Aarju Kumar, for allegedly serving ‘hookah’ in the restaurant without any licence. IO Sukhpal Singh said the case was registered against the owner and two employees as they used to keep the restaurant open even after 11 pm against the orders. He said two ‘hookah’ tools were recovered, but nobody was found consuming hookah. Kirat Bajaj said: “I don’t know about the case, as I was out of town. No hookah is served in the restaurant.” Two robbers arrested The police have arrested two robbers and recovered Rs 12,000 and an auto-rickshaw from them. The accused have been identified as Ajay Kumar of Shimlapuri and Rakesh Kumar, alias Rinku, of Sahnewal. Another accomplice Shambhu of Shimlapuri, however, is still at large. The accused were wanted in various loot incidents in Focal Point. Ajay and Rakesh were arrested at a check post by the police on Monday. The police also recovered an auto-rickshaw allegedly used by the accused in various robbery incidents. According to the police, the accused have confessed to their involvement in at least seven loot incidents. “On March 16, the trio looted Rs 48,000 from one Anand Kumar of Sherpur area. Anand had hired an auto-rickshaw and the accused looted money from him after threatening him with a sharp-edged weapon,” said ACP South Dharampal. He said Ajay has been facing a case under the NDPS Act, while Rakesh has been facing three cases of loot and theft. TNS
