Haemophilia workshop for patients at CMCH

The Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) along with patients observed the Haemophilia Day here on Saturday. According to the Haemophilia Federation of India (HFI) data, there are 18,000 patients registered with the 85 Haemophilia Chapters across the country. “The CMCH and the PGI, Chandigarh, have been chosen as nodal centres for training doctors,” said Dr John. As per the population of Punjab, the estimated number of patients with haemophilia (PwH) should be 2,844. The Punjab government is making factors available in all the three medical colleges and the CMCH, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, April 21 World Haemophilia Day is celebrated across globe on April 17 every year. The month of April is dedicated for haemophilia awareness. The Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) along with patients observed the Haemophilia Day here on Saturday. Haemophilia is a condition in which a specific factor 8 or 9 is missing which helps the blood to clot following an injury. It is estimated that one in every 5,000 males born are affected by this disease. According to the Haemophilia Federation of India (HFI) data, there are 18,000 patients registered with the 85 Haemophilia Chapters across the country. As many as 150 patients and their relatives attended the function on the CMCH premises on Saturday. The CMCH director, Dr William Bhatti, encouraged patients on the occasion. Lectures were delivered by Dr M Joseph John, Dr Chepsy Philip and Dr Suvir Singh during the function. As per the population of Punjab, the estimated number of patients with haemophilia (PwH) should be 2,844.
