Residents go without water as tube well develops snag

Residents said the tube well motor developed a snag, due to which they were suffering in this peak summer. 35 have got no water for almost two weeks, as the tube well in the area has developed a snag. MC officials, however, claimed that the water supply had been restored in most of the streets by Saturday afternoon. A team of the MC has, however, been deployed to ensure proper water supply in the area. The Mayor was unavailable for comments.A few residents of Sekhewal also complained about contaminated water being supplied to the area.

Ludhiana, May 26 Water ‘contaminated’ in Sekhewal Residents of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar on Barota Road in Ward No. 35 have got no water for almost two weeks, as the tube well in the area has developed a snag. MC officials, however, claimed that the water supply had been restored in most of the streets by Saturday afternoon. Residents said the tube well motor developed a snag, due to which they were suffering in this peak summer. A team of the MC has, however, been deployed to ensure proper water supply in the area. Residents are being supplied water through tankers. They claimed that they met Deputy Mayor Sarbjit Kaur, who is the councillor of the area. A resident of Barota Road said: “This tube well malfunctions quite often. The motor has been damaged, due to which there is a need to install a new one. We had a tough time due to the shortage of water. We appeal to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to take necessary measures to find out a permanent solution.” Sub-Divisional Officer Arshdeep Singh said: “We have installed a small motor. The water supply has been restored in 90 per cent of the area in Guru Gobind Singh Nagar. We have dug up some portion of the remaining two streets (12 and 13) to correct the slope of water pipes. The water supply will be restored in the entire area soon. The water pressure level is alright.” “The Mayor has passed an estimate for the new tube well. Once tenders are floated, a new tube-well will be installed,” he said. The Mayor was unavailable for comments.A few residents of Sekhewal also complained about contaminated water being supplied to the area. They demanded immediate action from the authorities. They claimed that a defunct tube well in the area was crying for attention.
