Health Dept takes 68 samples of food items

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, June 18The district administration is making consistent efforts to ensure that residents get unadulterated and hygienic food in the city under which a team of the Health Department collected 68 samples of food and destroyed seven quintals of vegetables and fruits on Monday. Dr Kang said, besides this, the department had also destroyed the fruits and vegetables ripened artificially through chemicals. Besides this, the shopkeepers have also being sensitised about the hazards of ripening fruits and vegetables artificially. All these samples have been sent to the government laboratory at Kharar for further analysis. She said this drive would also continue in coming days and action would be taken against defaulters.

Ludhiana, June 18 The district administration is making consistent efforts to ensure that residents get unadulterated and hygienic food in the city under which a team of the Health Department collected 68 samples of food and destroyed seven quintals of vegetables and fruits on Monday. Divulging the details, District Health Officer Dr Andesh Kang, said, today 28 samples has been taken of milk and milk products, 14 of fruits, two of ice creams, one of pan masala, seven of carbonated water, two of packed water, one of sauce and 13 of bakery and karyana. All these samples have been sent to the government laboratory at Kharar for further analysis. She said appropriate action would be taken against the defaulters after the final report. Dr Kang said, besides this, the department had also destroyed the fruits and vegetables ripened artificially through chemicals. She further added that during the drive seven quintals of fruits and vegetables have been destroyed which include four quintals of cauliflower, around two quintals of papaya, 50 kg mangoes, 20 Kg banana, 40 kg tomatoes and 40 mix fruit and others. Besides this, the shopkeepers have also being sensitised about the hazards of ripening fruits and vegetables artificially. She said this drive would also continue in coming days and action would be taken against defaulters.
