PPCB lauds decision of the Sikh priests to curtail noise within Gurdwara premises

Hon'ble Supreme Court is ordered not to play any loudspeakers or noise polluting organs during these night hours. PPCB teams conducted the measurement of noise pollution level around the various religious places namely Gurdwaras, Mandirs and Masjids in a scientific way during the time period of 4.00 am to 6.00 am and found that the noise levels were two to three times higher than the prescribed limit. He also made an appeal to the Gurdwara, Mandir and Masjid managing committees and their employees to act as per their legal, religious and moral responsibilities and take effective steps to keep the noise pollution within the premises of the religious places.As per Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 the permissible noise limits during night hours (10.00 pm to 6.00 am) in residential areas is 45 dB. PATIALA: The Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) had welcomed the decision taken by the five Sikh Priests at Akal Takht Sahib on June 14 in which the highest temporal authority of the Sikhs has directed all Gurdwara to keep the sound of the speakers within their premises.Chairman PPCB KS Pannu said the decision of the Sikh priests was praiseworthy and every follower should honour it by persuading the Gurudwara management committees to follow the edict.Pannu said higher values of noise level have adverse effects on the human health causing fatigue of the hearing or auditory sense organs, deafness, annoyance, hypertension, change of the rate of heart-beat, vertigo and cardiovascular problems.
