Cops deployed to check illegal construction of flats

LUDHIANA: After receiving complaints from RTI activist Kuldeep Khaira regarding illegal construction of flats at Isher Singh Nagar, civic officials have demanded police forces to be deployed at the site for keeping a check. On Tuesday, MC officials demanded police force at the site, so cops reached the site on Wednesday, and construction was stopped.However, Khaira said cops remained there for two hours, and then left the spot, after which construction work started again. On the other hand, building branch officials claimed they would look into the matter, and ensure round-the-clock vigilance at the spot.

He had highlighted that neither was any building plan approved by MC, nor was any permission taken from the irrigation department, as Sidhwan Canal was not far from the site.When this matter was highlighted, MC officials had stopped the work and also recovered a regularization fee from the defaulter. But the NOC from the irrigation department and some other violations remained a problem. Despite that, construction work continued at a brisk pace. On Tuesday, MC officials demanded police force at the site, so cops reached the site on Wednesday, and construction was stopped.However, Khaira said cops remained there for two hours, and then left the spot, after which construction work started again. On the other hand, building branch officials claimed they would look into the matter, and ensure round-the-clock vigilance at the spot.
