Ludhiana ahead of all districts in female sterilizations

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana district remained has come first in state by carrying out the maximum number of sterilization on women in a year. The senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Geeta made people aware of various methods to keep the family size in control. The listeners were told about new and advanced techniques of sterilisation and asked them to come forward for the same. A state-level award function was organised at Anandpur Sahib Jang E Azadi auditorium, where civil surgeon Ludhiana Parwinder Pal Singh Sandhu and district family welfare officer Dr S P Singh took the award. He said it is not necessary that only women should opt for family planning methods.

It was world population day on Wednesday and the award function was organised to appreciate the health officials from various districts for their efforts in controlling population.Civil surgeon Dr Sandhu said in past one year, 6,000 operations were conducted on women under family- planning scheme at Ludhiana civil hospital, 4 sub divisional hospitals and 11 community health centres across the district.Meanwhile the health officials also organised awareness programmes at mother-child department in civil hospital, sub-divisional hospital, Jagraon and community health centre in Koom Kalan. The senior medical officer (SMO) Dr Geeta made people aware of various methods to keep the family size in control. People were also told to keep a three-year gap between the two childbirths. Dr Geeta also apprised women at the programme about contraceptives, pills and some other ways to regulate their pregnancies.SMO, Jagraon, Dr Sukhjivan Kakkar also organised an awareness programme in Jagraon civil hospital, where people were encouraged to adopt measures to control birthrate. He said it is not necessary that only women should opt for family planning methods. Their male counterparts should also understand their responsibilities and only then the purpose will be fulfilled. The listeners were told about new and advanced techniques of sterilisation and asked them to come forward for the same.
