LUDHIANA: Two major fire incidents were reported in the city on Sunday evening. With fire breaking out at two spots at the same time, the fire department officials were kept on their toes. While one incident was reported in a godown of a knitwear on Tajpur Road, the other incident was reported in a hosiery unit in Subhash Nagar . While the latter was brought under control, firemen were still working to douse the flames at the first spot till the filing of the report.As per fire officials there was a major fire in cardboard godown of Shallu Knitwear in Geeta Nagar on Tajpur Road. The fire broke out around 6pm and engulfed the entire godown. The fire officials suspect the presence of some chemical inside. However, the same cannot be ascertained as the owner of the godown was not available at the site to provide with details. The absence of power supply posed as yet another problem in ascertaining the reason behind the fire in the cardboard godown.One of the firemen shared that sewerage lines being laid on Tajpur Road kept them from reaching the spot on time. He added there was hardly any space for fire tenders to move on the road due to which they had to reverse the tenders.Eyewitness Ashwini Kumar, owner of adjoining factory, who called up the fire brigade shared he had gone home early since it was Sunday. But, the workers of his factory called him up to inform about the fire in the neighbouring unit. He said he informed the fire brigade and also rushed towards the spot. He added it was a major accident.A fire incident took place in Rashmi Fabrics in Subhash Nagar at around 4.15pm. The fire had engulfed first and second floor of the building while the ground floor was safe. Five fire tenders were stationed at the site and they made 20-25 rounds to douse the flames.The fire station officer Srishthi Nath said reasons behind both the incidents are yet to be ascertained.
