LUDHIANA: Worried over increasing pollution in Focal Point, Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) has pledged to plant 10,000 trees in the area. This was disclosed by CICU president Upkar Singh Ahuja a day after the association organized a plantation drive outside its office, in which cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu too participated.Giving more information Ahuja said: “There is need to maintain greenery in order to reduce the adverse impact of pollution. CICU intends to plant 10,000 trees and herbs in industrial units and parks, and on road dividers. This will help maintain proper greenery, and develop green industrial belts.According to CICU general secretary Pankaj Sharma: “Our green campaign has begun, and we will be soon turning Focal Point into the greenest industrial areas of the region. However, a bit of overhauling is needed in the area, and Focal Point roads should be repaired on top priority, as they cause a lot of inconvenience and accidents. The sewerage lines of Focal Point are in a very bad shape, as there is no system of regular cleaning and maintenance. They should be cleaned at regular intervals, especially before the rainy season.Ashu and Sandhu lauded CICU’s efforts. Speaking on the occasion, Sandhu said he felt ashamed when he saw the condition of Focal Point roads while coming for the meeting. He assured members that repair work of the roads would start very soon. He also promised to allocate funds for cleaning the sewer lines of Focal Point.
